He was a life long resident of Rose Hill, VA and a member of Ball's Chapel Church. Rick was survived by his wife of 17 years Beverly Nelson, Sisters Carolyn Hilton, Betty Williams and husband James, Brother Dennis W. Nelson, Nephew Dennis D Nelson (DD), his wife Brenda and twins Rozzland, and Reyland. Niece Ashley Knisely and husband, Ron, and their son Daniel (DC) Knisely. And, Uncle Rick to Taylor, Kimberly, Ashlyn, Tyler, Kamryn, Aydyn, Ashton, Austin, and Avery.

Rick was well loved by all his family with many special nieces and nephews who he loved as his own children. He was parent, brother, uncle, and grandfather to many, many others. Anyone who knew Rick was touched by him. He had special, and unique relationships with each and every one of them. You knew he truly cared about you in both his words and actions. His presence will be missed by family and friends, and the community at large.

In the words of his wife. My childhood friend, my soulmate, and my love stepped over to heaven this morning. To be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord. So thankful we have journeyed this life together. I love you!
