Gerald F. Grant, 93, of Daughtery Rd, Zephyr Hills, Florida died peacefully Monday, April 12, 2021 while in the care of Consulate Health Care of Bayonet Point, FL.
He was born in Windham, Maine on August 22, 1927 the son of Scott Alvin and Evelyn (Varney) Grant, he was the oldest of their 10 children. He was a graduate of Mechanic Falls High School.
He enlisted in the U.S. Navy on October 9, 1945 and served in the Submarine service as a radioman at the end of WWII. While in the Navy he married his high school sweetheart, Frances Strout, and they had 5 boys.
He later acquired a degree in electronics and worked at various electronic companies. His career ended up with teaching at Central Maine Vocational & Technical Institute (CMVTI) where he taught computer robotics. He retired from teaching and he and Frances enjoyed traveling throughout the United States. Frances passed away in January of 2000. In July of 2006 he married Dorothy Witham of New Gloucester, ME. They also both enjoyed traveling and living in their home in Zephyr Hills, Florida.
He is predeceased by his first wife Frances (Strout) Grant; Brothers, Paul, Millard, Harold, Richard, and a sister, May Whiting.
He is survived by his wife, Dorothy Witham, his brother Stanford Grant (Betty) of Ocean Springs, MS, his sisters, Ann Kahkonen (William) of E. Andover, ME, Elizabeth Audet of LaGrange, N.C., Mary Jane Johnson of Frostproof, FL and his sons Gerald Grant Jr (Elizabeth), Frostproof, Fl, Thomas Grant Sr (Shinaey), Hebron, ME, Robert Grant, Palermo, NY, Millard Grant (Miyong), Myrtle Beach, SC, and Donald Grant (Mindy), Oswego, NY.
A Memorial service will be held August 14th, 10AM at the New Gloucester Bible Church, 218 Lewiston Rd, New Gloucester, Maine.
He will be buried at the Central Maine Veteran's Memorial Cemetery, Augusta, ME
