Entertainer. Born Frederick Mortimer Vokes in London, the eldest of four siblings. The quartet, Fred, Jessie, Rosina, and Victoria formed a family of players and became popular music hall entertainers of the age. Fred was a well regarded actor and dancer, he won the moniker 'The Man with the Elastic Legs.' The troupe were considered highly comical and excelled at pantomime including such pieces as "The Belles of the Kitchen," "Cousin Joe," "Fun in a Fog," and "No.1 Around the Corner." They were later joined by Walter Fawdon who took the stage name Vokes. He married actress Bella Moore but it was an apparently tumultuous union. The last few years of his life were apparently marked with great excess, he died suddenly at age 42.
