David R. Payton, 74, of Slocum Station, passed away peacefully on Friday morning, April 16, 2021 surrounded by his family. Born on December 27, 1946 in Portsmouth, to the late Robert and Alma Evans Payton, he was retired U. S. Navy veteran with 28 years of service to his country.

Also preceding him in death was a son, David Payton, Jr.

Dave was a graduate of East High School, and was able to maintain an active life with the help of his special treatment nurse, Lu. He loved his Facebook friends and really enjoyed shopping on Amazon. His very special family friends, Stacey, Keith, Kaelyn and Kenzie Hornikel, cared for him for many years so that he could have quality life at home.

Surviving are his daughters, Gidget Greenlee of Moore, OK and Jackie (T. J.) Sexton of Huntington, WV; a brother, Bobby (Sue) Payton of Elida; a sister, Pam (Kent) Lanham of Lexington, KY; his grandchildren that he adored, Lauren Greenlee, Logan Greenlee, Elijah Sexton, Garrett Sexton and Jayce Sexton; and additional family members Mike, Brad and Sara. His fur buddy, Kasey, was his best friend for many years.

A private graveside service will be held at Memorial Burial Park with military honors by the James Dickey Post of the American Legion.

The family will receive guests at the BRANT FUNERAL HOME IN SCIOTOVILLE from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Monday, April 19th.

Masks will be required for admission, but not furnished by the funeral home. Social distancing will be observed.

The flags on the avenue, along with the U. S. Navy flag, will fly in honor of our proud veteran Dave Payton.
