Funeral service for Daniel Alexander Lambert, 83 of Cordell, Oklahoma is pending with Ray & Martha's Funeral Home-Cordell. He died on Monday, April 12, 2021, in Cordell, Oklahoma.

Daniel Alexander Lambert was born July 26. 1937 in Stockton, California. He was the only child of Lowell and Claudia (Hagan) Lambert. Claudia later remarried Carl Gavert in 1944 and moved to Columbia, California where Dan started school. When he was about 10 years old, he accidentally pierced his eye with a pocket knife. Infection set in and spread to his other eye which resulted in total blindness within the next two years. He was sent to live at a School For The Blind in Berkeley, California and attended school through his junior year--going home on weekends and vacations. He lived at home his senior year and graduated from Fremont Union High School in Sunnyvale, California.

He decided to become a Southern Baptist Minister of the Gospel and preached his first sermon at the age of 16. He moved to Shawnee, Oklahoma in 1956 where he attended/graduated college from Oklahoma Baptist University. Dan then moved back to California, where he enrolled in Golden Gate Baptist Theological Seminary and graduated in June 1966.

In 1965, Dan moved to Murphys, California where he became a chaplain at Bret Harte Hospital, a long term care facility and rehabilitation center. On October 14, 1966 he married Patricia Ann Freels. After the hospital closed down in 1974 they made the very hard decision, after much prayer, to move the family to Oklahoma.

In 1977 they moved to Headrick, Oklahoma where Dan was pastor of First Baptist Church for over 25 years and also worked as a civilian employee at Altus Air Force Base for over 20 years before he retired.

In November 2022, Dan and Pat moved to Cordell, Oklahoma. Dan served as interim pastor at several small Baptist churches in the area. Due to health, he retired from formal ministry in 2016, Dan was diagnosed with congestive heart failure in April 2017 which started his decline in health.

Dan had a fondness for nature, plants, gospel/bluegrass/old country music, fresh coffee and homemade ice cream. He loved to spend lots of time outdoors gardening, hiking and digging for old bottles. He played various musical instruments, such as madalin, guitar, bass fiddle, and some piano. He played in a Bluegrass band for several years (Dry Grass Bluegrass).

Dan was the best father and husband that God could have provided. He is survived by his beautiful wife of over 50 years - Patricia, 5 children - Linda, Betty, Elizabeth, Daniel and James. 11 grandchildren - Rick, Danielle, Lyle, Eli, Jaydee, Caston, Lanie, Lindy, Tucker, Cade and Chance and 6 great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to St. Jude's Hospital, Oklahoma School for the Blind, Oklahoma Library for the Blind and Physically Handicapped or to a charity of your choice.
