In 1944, during WWII, he entered the US Navy, and served with distinction in the campaigns to liberate the Philippine Islands and to capture Iwo Jima, Okinowa, Leyte, P.I. and Luzon, Formosa on the China coast. He was awarded the Asiatic Pacific Theatre Ribbon with five bronze service stars, the American Campaign Medal and the Presidential Unit Citation.
He was a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Walker Rogers Post 662. He was also a member of the Disabled American Veterans and the Greek American Legion.
A lifelong member, past president, treasurer and longtime Board of Trustees member of St. George Antichian Orthodox Church.
He was active in the community, serving on the Board of Directors of the YMCA, the Alumni Association of YMCA, and was a member for more than 60 years. He was also a member of the board of directors of Ambitemp in Andover, and was a founder and board member of New England Thermoplastics in Lawrence. (The Sun - 5/11/2007)
