Bill was born in Hoboken, NJ but his parents moved to Brooklyn, NY when he was two months old, he always considered himself a New Yorker.Bill was born on June, 6, 1930, a day that was to become famous.Bill served 30 years in the United States Marine Corps from Private to retiring as a Major. He served in both the Korean War and Vietnam War. Among the many medals he received were the Meritorious Service Medal, Bronze Star with Combat V, Purple Heart, Combat Infantryman's Badge, the Korean War Service Medal with six battle stars and The Vietnam War Service Medal with two service stars. During the Korean War he served as a machine gunner in the Battle of the Chosin Reservoir. Upon his retirement from the Marines, he worked for a company called TRW as a project manager.Bill was the son of William and Helen Mills who came to the United States from St. Johns, Newfoundland in 1928. He was the oldest of four children and was preceded in death by sisters, Peggy Feis and Joan Mink.
