Julia (Molnar) Balla (1885-1962) was born in Hungary the daughter of Frank Molnar and Esther Haydu. In 1902, she left Hungary and arrived in New York to join her sister, Elizabeth (Molnar) Zeler, who had immigrated to the United States a few years earlier and was working as a cook for a wealthy family in New York. Elizabeth, when asked if she knew any other young woman that could work as a maid, mentioned Julia to her employer who paid for Julia to come to America.

On the 9 September 1907, Julia married Alexander "Alex" Balla (1886-1950) in Brooklyn, New York. Julia and Alexander had ten children between 1908 and 1926: Alex, Ima, the twins Frank and John, Irene, Esther, Arpod, Henry, Aline, and Ethel. Before the birth of their sixth child, Alexander moved his family to Sabine Co., Texas. They lived in Pineland and Brookeland townships of Sabine County. Before the birth of their last child, they moved to Browndell, Jasper Co., Texas.

Following the death of her husband, Julia moved in with some her children, particularly her daughter Judy (Balla) Elmer. While living with them, they got into a car accident. Although no one was killed or seriously injured, Julia was tosed about in the back seat hurting her arm. A few days later, on the 4 February 1962, she passed away. She was buried in Old Hardin Cemetery in Hardin Co., Texas next to her husband.
