Sidney I. "Sid" Strotheide, 90, of Collinsville and formerly of Granite City, Ill., born July 20, 1918, in Trenton, Ill., died at 1:53 a.m. Tuesday, May 19, 2009, at Anderson Hospital in Maryville, Ill.

Mr. Strotheide had served many years as a dedicated electrician, working at the Granite City Army Depot in Granite City and the U.S. Army Corp of Engineers and retired in 1975 from the Troops Support Command in St. Louis. The United States veteran proudly served his country during World War II with the Navy and during the Korean War with the Army. He was a member of the Mother Church, The First Church of Christ, Scientist, in Boston, Mass., and locally was a member of the former First Church of Christ, Scientist, in Granite City. He was faithful 32 degree member of both Granite City Masonic Lodges 877 and 835, serving 20 years as treasurer of the Tri City Shrine Club, Scottish Rite Bodies, Ainad Temple, Legion of Honor and Royal Order of Jesters and was a recipient of the Meritorious Service Award. Sid was a coordinator and van driver for Shriners Hospital for Children taking more than 125 trips to Cincinnati, Ohio for burn patients. He was a distinguished blood donor with the American Red Cross working towards his 28th gallon of blood donated. He served 38 years as the treasurer for the Army Depot Credit Union and was an adjutant of the Granite City American Legion Post 113.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Ben and Alvena, nee Jahn, Strotheide; a sister and brother-in-law, Jan and Dennis Davis.
Surviving are his beloved wife of 67 years, LaVerne, nee Taylor, Strotheide whom he married on March 1, 1942 in Trenton, Ill.; two daughters, Sydney Joy Wofford of Collinsville, Ill., and Jahn S. O'Brien of Glen Ellyn, Ill.; a son and daughter-in-law, David and Emily Strotheide of Edmond, Okla.; five grandchildren and spouses, Eric David and Diana Wofford of Collinsville, Kerri Beth Hallden of Chicago, Trisha Renee Hallden of Chicago, Sydney Alexandra Strotheide of Independence, Mo., and John Wesley and Thu Strotheide of Edmond, Okla.; three great-grandchildren, Brittany Nicole Wofford, Michael Anthony Molle Jr. and Jennifer Honeycutt; a great-great-grandchild, Hayden James Honeycutt; a brother and sister-in-law, Eugene E. "Toddy" and Nancy Strotheide of Tucson, Ariz.; a sister and brother-in-law, Elinor and Charles Zahn of Trenton, Ill.; and other extended family and friends.
Memorials may be made to Shriners Hospital for Children and may be accepted at the funeral home.
