Shirley was the daughter of James William Leach and Thelma Tate Leach. After high school, Shirley studied Cosmetology at the local area vocational school. She was hired as a full-time Cosmetologist by the prestigious Augusta National Golf Club in Augusta, Georgia. She switched professions to the medical field and began employment with the Houston Medical Center in Warner Robins, Georgia in February 1974, working in Endoscopy until her retirement in December 2000. During this over 25 years time span Shirley never missed a day of work due to illness, all while raising 5 kids and taking care of an entire household. She devoted a great deal of time to her health and wellness and it was not uncommon to see her adhering to her daily walking routine and partaking in a healthy diet. Her hobbies consisted of sewing and shopping, she single handedly kept Fingerhut in business. She loved to travel with her family, always keeping them entertained with her witty comments. One of her favorite destinations was the beach, it did not matter which beach as long as there was beautiful sand and water. Her true passion was bowling and she bowled in couples and women's leagues most of her life. She was a member of the PWOC (Protestant Women of the Chapel) on Robins Air Force Base in Warner Robins, Georgia.

She was married to Daniel Webster Sizemore for 59 years.
