Reverend Doris Louise Wright earned her wings on Tuesday, February 16, 2021. God dispatched his angels to bring her home to get her wings and heavenly reward. Doris was born June 20, 1934 to the late James and Cora Wright.
Her early years were spent on a farm in Johnston County. She graduated from Garner Senior High School and earned her degrees from Apex School of Theology (B.S.) and Justice Fellowship College of Theology (Masters).
She was gainfully employed by IBM where she later retired in 1989. She spent most of her life leading people to Christ. She loved children and worked hard in the community. She earned a certificate of appreciation from Gov. James G. Martin in 1988 for her volunteerism. She ran a prison ministry, and received a certificate from the NC Department of Correction for her work with the prison ministry. She led the Saturday Prayer Ministry and served as the mother of the church at New Mercy Baptist Church where she faithfully attended until her health declined. She formerly attended Providence Holiness Church and served as Head of the Outreach Ministry. She also attended Mt. Peace Baptist Church where she served under Pastor Vincent Terry as an Associate Minister.
She leaves to mourn her two sons Harold A. Savage of Rougemont, N.C., and Timothy E. Savage (Anita) of the home; One special daughter, Kimberly Hill of Raleigh, N.C.; two adopted daughters, Kiffanie Hagans of Zebulon, N.C., and Tracey Wright of Fayetteville, N.C.; four granddaughters Tahysha Savage (Hinton), Jamel Hinton, Tiffany Wortham, LaTonya Muldrow, Cortney Savage, and Delia High; two grandsons El Gato' Savage (Kia) and Damion Yelverton (Irene), nineteen great-grandchildren, and nine great-great grandchildren. She also leaves behind one sister, Rev. Mary Dowd (William) and one brother, Bishop Samuel "Joe" Wright, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, and godchildren.
