He enjoyed collecting coins and playing guitar, and was a member of Oakland Heights Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife of 47 years, Carolyn Simpson Couch; son, Timothy Couch; and seven siblings. He is survived by his son, Steve Couch (Cindy); grandchildren, Tim Couch (Megan), Marc Couch (Toni), Derek Couch (Tamara) and Stephanie Couch (Richard Smith); brothers, Clyde Couch and Ernest Couch (Rose); sister, Mary Owens (Allen), two brothers-in-law, three sisters-in-law, nine great grandchildren, and five great-great grandchildren.
