He was born in Snyder, CO to Lester & Nellie Baker on June 12, 1929.

Gene graduated from Snyder High School. In 1947 he joined the US Air Force. He was honorably discharged on November 1, 1967. While serving in the US Air Force he was an Aircraft Maintenance Technician. On October 11, 1953, Gene married Janet Roth. In 1995, Gene & Janet moved from California to Brush. Gene was an avid sports fan. While attending Snyder High School he played basketball. After graduation he coached his kids in various sports, umpired community softball games, and attended many of the high school sporting events.

Survivors include his 4 children, sister, brothers, and 7 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren.
