Benjamin passed away April 12, 2021, at Licking memorial Hospital. He was born April 3, 1940, in Newark, to the late Roy W. and E. Lucille (Westfall) Thomas.
Benny graduated from Hebron High School in 1958, where he played baseball and football. He played baseball since Little League up through high school. After high school football he went to play for Oklahoma University and OSU until an injury that ended his college football career. He coached girls' softball when his daughters played at Kiwanis and baseball when his son played at North Newark Little League. He loved to attend his children's and grandchildren's sporting events. He also enjoyed photography and golf. He retired from Lucent Technologies after 40 years of service. Ben was a member of the following Masonic Bodies: Aerospace Lodge #800, a newly constituted Lodge formed by members of Center Star Lodge #11, Crusader Lodge #720 and Heath Lodge #771. He was a Past Master of Crusader Lodge, and a 58-year Mason. York Rite Bodies: Warren Chapter #6, Bigelow Council #7, St. Luke's Commandery #34 and Heart of Ohio Allied Masonic Degrees. The Aladdin Shrine, Licking County Club. A 32nd Degree Mason in the Valley of Columbus Scottish Rite. He was also a Past President of the 19th Masonic District Association.
He is survived by his loving wife Gloria E. (Marmie) Thomas; four children, Jeffrey A. Thomas, Sherrie L. (Gregory) Hughes, Kelli S. (Matt) Hopkins, and Brian M. (Shannon) Thomas; former daughter-in-law, Sherri Thomas; sixteen grandchildren, Emily, Benjamin, Dillon, and Zoe Thomas, Luke Murdock; Christopher, Devan, Chelsie, Heather, and Briar Hughes; Matthew (Rachael), Dr. Nathanael and Noah Hopkins and McKenzie (Donald) Houston; Garrett and Audrey Thomas; two great-grandchildren, Kaden Hughes and Kendalynn Regenhardt; a great-granddaughter is due at the end of June; brother-in-law, Ronald (Diane) Marmie; sister-in-law, Marlena K. Thompson and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his aunt, Genevieve (Butch) Bachelor, and brother-in-law, Bert Thompson.
