Mrs. Hannah Yvonne Rose, 77, of Elkhart, passed away peacefully on Saturday, April 10, 2021 at 2:08 pm at Golden Living Center in Elkhart following an extended illness. She was born in Chicago, Illinois on May 13, 1943 and married Myron D. Rose on August 27, 1960 in Elkhart. He survives at home after 60 wonderful years together.
Also surviving are her sons John R. (Stephanie) and David J. (Lorene Faus) Rose, both of Elkhart; grandchildren Kyle L. (Johannah) Rose of Three Rivers, Michigan and Brent R. (Kelcie Caples) and Matthew M. (Michelle) Rose, also both of Elkhart; and a host of loving extended family and good friends. Her parents and a sister, Rita Yvarra, precede her in death.
Billings Funeral Home and Cremation Services of Elkhart are hosting Hannah's celebration of life services, beginning with a visitation and viewing on Thursday, April 15, 2021 from 4-7 pm. Then on Friday, April 16, 2021 at 10:00 am, Fr. Ted Stanley of Trinity Lutheran Church of Elkhart will officiate the funeral service there at Billings. There also will be a short visitation as well on Friday beginning at 9 am. Following the service, a procession will carry Hannah to Rice Cemetery in Elkhart, where she will be laid to rest following a graveside committal service.
Hannah wore a lot of hats over the years, but the one that gained her the most appreciation was that of mother, homemaker and beloved wife. She loved spending time with her family and celebrated any excuse to have everyone together. Over the years, she also worked at the SR 19 Ponderosa in Elkhart with (yes) her entire family cooking, cleaning and serving at her side, as well as working as a receptionist for Dr. Boling over the years.
She was a prolific volunteer and enjoyed helping others in any way she could. She spent many hours at local nursing facilities, but her most loved avocation was with Aux Chandelles (French for "Into the Light"), an Elkhart based extension of ADEC and CAPS, which assisted local mentally challenged youth to prepare for life experiences and sustainable career paths. She worked with Aux Chandelles for many years, becoming a beloved, recognizable face to the students and a published author as well on teaching techniques for the mentally challenged.
When she wasn't helping others, she enjoyed travelling, especially to Panama City, Tucson and Sedona. She also loved to read, do freehand watercolor painting and visit museum and zoos. She was also an avid animal lover and attended Trinity Lutheran Church.
