Deputy Sheriff Pat Barnes was killed in a vehicle crash while responding to a domestic disturbance at a hotel in Prentiss, Mississippi.
He was responding to backup members of the Prentiss Police Department when his patrol car left the roadway and struck a tree near the intersection of Highway 42 and Ed Parkman Road.
Deputy Barnes also served as a part-time officer with the Prentiss Police Department. He is survived by his wife, two children, and one grandchild.
Son of the late L. C. Gholar and Mrs. Betty Barnes. He was a member of Prentiss First Baptist Church where he served as a Trustee and on Security Detail.
Mr. Barnes was a Deputy Sheriff with Jefferson Davis County Sheriff Department. He was an officer with Prentiss Police Department also. He loved working, helping his fellowman, spending time with family and friends and was an avid fan of the Pittsburg Steelers.
He is survived by: wife, Felicia Barnes of Carson, MS; son, Demetris Barnes of Stone Mountain, GA; daughters, Kendriona Barnes and Thomasina Barnes both of Prentiss, MS; Patience Otis of Hattiesburg, MS; brothers, Robert C. Barnes of Moss Point, MS; Greg Barnes and Jerry Gholar both of Prentiss, MS; Charles Gholar of Houston, TX; Jimmy D. Gholar and Marcus Gholar both of Silver Creek, MS; Calvin Gholar of Houston, TX; Louis Gholar of Gulfport, MS; sisters, Helen Simmons and Brenda Avery both of Houston, TX; Jerlene Magee, Barbara Young and Linda Walker all of Prentiss, MS; Katrina Barnes of Hattiesburg, MS; Greta Weary of Tylertown, MS; Brenda Pound of Bassfield, MS; Cathy Smith of Viriginia.
