JAMES HARNED GRANT Sr. age 78 of Hudson, Ohio passed away April 1, 2021.

He was preceded in death by his parents George and Sara (nee Harned) and brothers George, Robert, and Ralf. Jim is survived by his loving wife of 51 years, Honora (nee Ruffing); their three children, Mary Marita (Brian), James Jr. (Allison) and Kevin (Denee); five grandchildren; and brothers William (Teri) and Alexander (Donna).

Jim Grant retired in 2005 from Gradall Industries Inc. During his thirty-five-year career with Warner & Swasey Company, Fiat Allis, and Gradall Industries, he held numerous executive level positions.

He was born in Texas and grew-up in Allentown, Pennsylvania. After graduating from Valley Forge Military Junior College, Jim served from 1964 to 1966 as a Peace Corps Volunteer in Iran. During that time, he taught farm equipment repair and steel fabrication to Iranians living along the Caspian Sea. He developed improved agriculture tools for cultivating and harvesting crops. His ingenuity is credited in the design and development of a peanut crop harvester and a primitive washing machine.

He is a graduate of Kent State University and attended the MBA program at the Nance College of Business of Cleveland State University. Jim was a published author. During his retirement he wrote three books detailing the history of construction equipment manufacturing in Northeast Ohio: The Gradall A Story of American Ingenuity Company; Load Handler - Gradall Loed Materials Handler; and Warner & Swasey Construction Equipment. He was currently completely a fourth book. His freelance writing also appeared in industry publications and technical manuals of the Peace Corps and U. S. Agency for International Development. Jim is remembered for being a devoted husband, father, and granddad, as well as a loyal brother, friend, and colleague. He was an energetic gardener; loved to share his lifetime hobby of Lionel trains; enjoyed golfing and walking his Labrador Retrievers. Jim enjoyed the outdoors immensely and the beauty of nature.

Private family services were held, and burial was at St. Mary's Cemetery Hudson, Ohio.
