Shirley Wooten Carter, 78, passed away on Sunday, April 11, 2021.
An Asheville native, Shirley was a daughter of the late George and Dora Roberts Wooten. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Tommy Clinton Carter, three brothers, and two sisters.
Shirley graduated from Lee H. Edwards High School. She later retired from Square D following 27 years of service. In her spare time, she enjoyed bowling and was a member and past Secretary of the WNC Bowling Association. Mrs. Carter was also a member of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church.
Mrs. Carter is survived by her daughter, Anita King (Robbie); son, Craig Carter (Margarita); grandchildren, Justin Wilson (Olivia) and Kyle Wilson (Paige); and great-grandson, Theo Wilson, all of whom she loved dearly. She is also survived by her sister, Patricia Wooten.
The funeral service for Mrs. Carter will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday at the Groce Funeral Home chapel on Patton Ave. Pastor Keith Watkins will officiate. Interment will follow at Pisgah View Memorial Park.
Her family will receive friends for one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Masks are required at the funeral home.
