Valerie Angela Wright (née Crosswell), also known as Ms. Joy, passed away on Sunday, April 4, 2021 at Hartford Hospital. Valerie was born August 8, 1941 to the late Grace Sheldon and Herbert Crosswell, in Kingston, Jamaica. She grew up in Jamaica before coming to the United States in 1969 and settling in Connecticut.
She was a vibrant, caring, and unique individual who touched the lives of all that knew her. She loved spending time with her family and friends. Before retiring, she worked as a nurse at Hartford Hospital for many years, and ended her career employed at the Hartford Dispensary.
Valerie was the beloved wife of the late Joseph Wright. She is survived by her three children, Diane Watkins, Michelle Leslie, and Michael Leslie; two brothers, Winston Crosswell and Dennis Crosswell; five grandchildren, Charisse Douglas, Traci Llewellyn, Leslie and Shane Chang, and Gabrielle Leslie; and two great-granddaughters, Chanai Thomas and Logan Wilson.
The funeral will be held on Thursday, April 15, 2021 at The Lodge Community Chapel, located at 130 Deerfield Rd, Windsor, CT. Viewing will begin at 10:00am, followed by the service at 11:00am. Burial will take place at Mountain View Cemetery (Bloomfield, CT) immediately following the service. Carmon Funeral Home has care of arrangements.
