Robert Samuel Cissell passed away suddenly on Aug. 4, 2006.

He was born in Lancaster, Calif., on May 8, 1925, the baby of five brothers.

Bob is survived by his children from a former marriage Sandy and Steve; his current wife of 38 years Marilyn; his stepchildren Mitch (wife Kathy) and Kim; grandchildren Zach, Richelle and Carissa; brothers George (wife Lillyan) and Harry (wife Kay); and numerous nieces and nephews Kathleen, Jackie, Dennie, Gary, Bill, Cathy, Dianne and Salty.

He was preceded in death by his adored daughter Susie; his parents Maude and Emmet Cissell; and two brothers.

All of his life he was a jack of all of trades, being a farm boy, he hauled hay for local farmers in Lancaster. Joining the Navy in 1944, he never left the base in Long Beach, Calif., where he served as bartender for the officers' club. Following the service he found employment as a butcher, and top salesman for the Starksen Chevrolet dearlership in Lancaster.

In 1958, he became a proud member of the Antelope Valley sheriff's posse. As a cement mason he erected many blocks walls in Lancaster. But suffering from cement poisoning, he switched careers and found his real love being a skilled union carpenter for over 20 years.

Following his marriage to Marilyn he moved to Thousand Oaks. Along the way, he became the owner of a popular bar in Thousand Oaks called, The Lawyers.

Throughout his life one of his greatest joys was open day fishing at June and Crowley Lakes catching trout and bass with friends exchanging stories and many a fish tale. Several times a year, he and friend Herb would hop on the bus and go to the Chumash Casino where Bob heard those slot machines calling his name. A more recent interest was the challenge of completing crossword puzzles in the local newspapers and then occasionally he would compare results with next door neighbor and friend, Mat.

How often he'd go next door to see what carpentry, gardening or automotive project, his friend Mat was working on. It was cute to watch, almost like the enthusiasm of a little boy.

Bob was a member of the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks for 59 years, first in Lancaster, Calif. Then in Thousand Oaks becoming a life member in July 1990. Bob served Thousand Oaks Elks Lodge No. 2477 as a five-year trustee. Recognizing his talents, he became the Thousand Oaks Elks bar manager for 20 years. For his service to the Lodge he was name Elk of the Year in 1985 which is the highest award bestowed on an Elk member. As a member of the Elks El KonejoKampers he found his second love by lending a hand to fellow campers or in the poker game.

Cremation was handled by Valley Oaks, Griffin Mortuary in Westlake Village. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the Thousand Oaks Elks Lodge New Facility Fund. A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 5 at Calvary Chapel on Skyline Drive in Thousand Oaks.
