David is survived by his beloved wife of 56 years, Gail Pickering; daughters, Ginger Thompson of Rockford and Tina Sirmon of South Carolina; grandchildren, Taylor and Ashton Thompson and Sullivan and Grayson Sirmon; nephews, Lane, Johnny, and Lance Sanders of Mississippi and niece, Nicole Polk of Mississippi.
David had a strong value for hard work, never met a stranger and loved life to its fullest extent. His laughter was contagious. All those who knew and loved him and all those whose life he touched will remember him as an extraordinary man whose life truly made a difference in their lives.
He was totally devoted to his family, loved teaching family members how to repair everything from automobiles to broken toys and spending summers at the beach in Pawleys Island, South Carolina with all the family every year.
David will be cremated and his ashes spread in the water at Pawleys Island at a later date.
Our family wishes to extend their heartfelt gratitude to Heartland Hospice for their care and attention during this difficult journey. A special blessing to his care team of Lynette, Kaila, Stephanie and Christie for being with our family and their compassion during David's final hours.
