Funeral Rites Saturday for Sarah Bingham

Mrs. Sarah Bartlett Bingham, 76, wife of Fred G. Bingham died at 12 p.m. on January 8, following an lingering illness. Funeral services will be conducted in the Vernal Second Ward Chapel on January 12 at 11:00 a.m. Burial will be in the Vernal City Memorial Park.

Friends may call at the Vernal Mortuary Friday evening prior to services.

She was born January 6, 1887, at Vernal, a daughter of Charles G. and Annie K. Jensen Bartlett. She married Fred G. Bingham September 19, 1906 in the Salt Lake Temple.

As an active member of the LDS Church, she served as officer and teacher in all the auxillaries. At an early age she began teaching in the Primary Association, later serving many years as Stake President and counselor of this association.

In 1953 she received a 50 year Service Pin from the Primary General Board. She was a charter member of the Annie K. Bartlett Camp and was officer, Class instructor and historian.

Mrs. Bingham learned pageant writing under the direction of Professor Eastman at the BYU and during her life time wrote pageants, which she also directed. The first pageant to be given in Vernal was presented in the Imperial Hall by the Primaries of the stake.

This pageant was written and directed by Mrs. Bingham. In 1938 on the 50th anniversary of the Primary orgainization of the church, each Primary organization was asked to have a float in the parade at Salt Lake City. Uintah Stake chose the dinosaur, distinctive of this locality for the float, which won many distinctions for their entry.

Mrs. Bingham, in addition to her church services, gave much time to community and civic affairs, directing games and parades for different occasions.

Surviving Mrs. Bingham are her husband, two sons and seven daughters, Mrs. Asahel A. (Elgia) Perry, Yuma, Arizona; Mrs. Aird G. (Merle) Merkley, Salt Lake City; Mrs. J. Ferron (Louesa) Hacking, Vernal; Mrs. Uel C. (Ruth) Hunting, Logan; Mrs. Earle H. (Genevieve) Rogers, Albuquerque, New Mexico; Dr. Charles B. Bingham, Fresno, California; Mrs. Lisle H. (Winifred) Green, Glendora, California; Mrs. Shirley (DeLyle) Richards, Rupert, Idaho; Ferron B. Bingham, San Pedro, California; 45 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Ashley Bartlett, Fontana, California and Ross Bartlett, New Mexico. Mrs. Bingham was preceded in death by two married children, Thomas B. and Zelda.
