NEWBERNE, W.Va. - Muriel Gordon, 94, of Newberne departed this life Feb. 28, 2004, at Glenville.
She was born Oct. 7, 1909, near Glenville, a daughter of the late Matthew P. and Bertha O. Cunningham Simmons. She had been employed by the former Weston State Hospital in food service and was a member of the Auburn Baptist Church at Auburn in Ritchie County. She attended the Newberne United Methodist Church at Newberne in Gilmer County.
She is survived by two stepchildren, Edna N. West of Troy and William Edward Gordon of San Diego, Calif; a daughter-in-law, Jeanie Gordon Scott of Troy; several step grandchildren and step great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Gordon was preceded in death by her husband, Rossa D. Gordon; a stepson, Charles Keith Gordon; and brothers, Earl, Harley and Harold Simmons.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at McCullough-Rogers Funeral Home, with the Rev. John Frum officiating. Interment will be in the I.O.O.F. Cemetery at Harrisville, W.Va. Friends may call 4-8 p.m. Tuesday and after 9 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
