Mark was predeceased by his brothers Steven and Michael. He is survived by Donna, his wife of 41 years and children Russell (Beth) Barber, Jennifer (Andrew) Holl and Nathan (Marley) Barber; and his six grandchildren Isabel, Graycie and Chase Barber, Scott and James Holl, and Olivia Barber.
Mark was born in DeRuyter, NY on November 9th, 1954 to parents Russell T. and Estelle M. Barber. After graduating high school in 1972 he enlisted in the United States Navy where he served with distinction for seven years receiving several commendations as a Machinist Mate. After leaving the service, Mark took that training and started a successful career in the power generation industry working as a Field Service Representative for General Electric starting up many natural gas power plants around New York State and for Dresser-Rand doing the same around the country. Mark loved fishing, playing cards or any game that involved competition…and his turbines but he was most happy tinkering in his shop remodeling old tractors and fixing just about anything that came his way. A hard working man who had time and a nickname for everyone – he will be missed by his family and friends…..the light may have gone out in the shop, but his memory will live in our hearts forever.
"Sweeeeeeet" Mark's family will greet family and friends at Smith Funeral Home in DeRuyter, NY, on Saturday, April 10th, 2021 from 1-4pm. Please sign the guestbook at syracuse.com/obits
