Captain Timothy Wheeler was the brother of my ancestor, GEORGE WHEELER. He was baptized on December 28, 1604 in Warley, Cranfield Parish, Bedfordshire, England.
On April 30, 1632, he married Susan Knight in Cranfield, England, and next married Jane in 1633. The families of Timothy and his brothers, George and Thomas, probably immigrated from England together in about 1638. He was a freeman in Concord, Mass. on 13 May 1640. In 1642, he married Mary Brooks, daughter of Thomas & Grace Brooks, founders of Concord.
Timothy signed a petition on September 7, 1643 in regard to division of land & improvement on land grants. He was appointed representative for Concord in 1663 and often thereafter.
He was appointed ensign in 1646 and captain in later life. In 1675, Capt. Timothy Wheeler (at around 74 yrs. of age) was given authority to find a gunsmith for Concord to repair arms. He was often called lieutenant on Concord records.
Captain Timothy and my ancestor, George Wheeler, owned large amounts of land jointly in the area of Concord, Mass. which included land that they purchased from Grace Bulkely, widow of Rev. Bulkley (Deed: Grace Bulkley to Timothy & George Wheeler Sept. 30, 1663, Middlesex Deeds L3, f. 128). On part of the land they purchased was the original portion of the building that is now the famous Coloniel Inn in Concord. Capt. Timothy lived in this building at one time. The Inn is in the top right picture.
Timothy & Jane are reported to have had one child: Sarah Wheeler.
Known children of Timothy & Mary (Brooks) Wheeler:
Mary Wheeler b. Oct. 3, 1657
Elizabeth Wheeler b. Oct. 6, 1661
Rebecca (Wheeler) Minot b. 1666
PLEASE NOTE....Tombstone inscription gives death date as July 30, 1687, but Vital Records state: "Timothy Wheeler died 7.4.78 [April 7, 1678].
