Army Master Sgt. Bruner was assigned to the Headquarters, 2nd Brigade, 100th Division, U.S. Army Reserve, Owensboro, Kentucky. He died in Kabul, Afghanistan, from what is believed to have been a heart attack. Thomas was on active duty in the Army from 1975 to 1979, followed by 26 years in the Army Reserves beginning in 1981. He was on his second deployment to Afghanistan and was a soldier doing the job he loved. Christmas was a special holiday to Thomas; he would even decorate the inside of his garage. But this year was special because he would be coming home to spend it with his family. When people think about Thomas, they remember how much he loved his family. He enjoyed NASCAR, all sports, especially Pittsburgh Steelers and UK Basketball. Thomas leaves behind his wife, Jane.
