Doris Jeanette Culver Young, 96 of Florence, passed away April 8, 2021 at her residence. She was a member of Midway Church of Christ.
Visitation will be Monday, April 12, 2021 at Greenview Funeral Home from 12:00 p.m. - 1:00 p.m. Funeral service will begin at 1:00 p.m. in Greenview Memorial Chapel with Frank Richey and Don Miller officiating. Burial will follow in Tri Cities Memorial Gardens.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 72 years, Harold Cecil Young; parents, Orbie and Rubye Culver; brother, Orbie Culver, Jr. (Louzerine); and sister, Nettie Lou Ernstberger (Tommy).
Survivors include her daughters, Judy Atkerson (Gary, Sr.) and LaNette Coburn (Steve, Sr.); grandchildren, Seanette Collier (Donald), Crissy Atkerson, G.W. Atkerson, Jr. (Julie), Ginger Mizell, Steve Coburn, Jr. (Nikkia), and Scott Coburn; great grandchildren, Scarlette Collier, Sophie Collier, Kaitlyn Coburn, Kristyn Coburn, Kaden Coburn, Harper Atkerson and Trip Atkerson.
Serving as pallbearers will be Scott Coburn, Steve Coburn, Jr., G. W. Atkerson, Jr., Seanette Collier, Crissy Ann Atkerson, and Ginger Mizell. Honorary pallbearers will be Gary Atkerson, Sr., Steve Coburn, Sr. and Donald Collier.
She was a dedicated wife and mother to her husband, Harold and daughters Judy and LaNette. She was a faithful Christian and kept her home according to Proverbs 31. She supported her husband in various ventures with the most important being he was a faithful gospel preacher.
She loved her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and strived to be a good example to them.
During her lifetime she was an excellent seamstress and made most of her own and her daughters clothes, including both of daughters wedding dresses and one granddaughter. Also, she is remembered as the "bowl lady" at Rustic Youth Camp, influencing children and adults alike. She and Harold were charter members of the camp.
She was always willing to help others following the example of Dorcas in Acts 9.
Also, she thoroughly enjoyed china painting. Many of her family and friends have received pieces of her work.
She has left a legacy of Christian values and will be missed by all.
