Gayla grew up in St. Louis and graduated from St. Elizabeth's Academy. She moved to St. Charles county in her 20's and raised her family in Josephville, MO. She was active in her community serving as a 4-H leader and volunteer at St. Joseph's church. She enjoyed hosting family and friends at holidays and always opened her home and heart to anyone in need. In midlife she began working for the St. Charles County Pet Adoption Center which she retired from after 20 years. She had a tender heart for animals and was always glad when rescued animals found a good home. Gayla was an avid gardener and enjoyed creating beauty in her yard. She loved her greenhouse and seeing her plants thrive. For the last 30 years she was an active member of First Baptist Church of Wright City, MO where she served as the church treasurer for many years. One of her joys was putting together shoe boxes full of essential items for children in third world countries for Christmas. For many years she helped collect and make hundreds of shoe boxes. Gayla was especially proud of her grandchildren and great grandchildren and enjoyed keeping up with them all. She will be deeply missed by her husband, her family and all who knew her.
There will be a drive by receiving line in the church parking lot from 10:30-11:30 am on Saturday Nov. 28th followed by an outdoor memorial service also in the church parking lot at noon at the First Baptist church of Wright City, MO. Those attending will be able to stay in their cars for both. A graveside service for the family will follow.
