Betty O. Walters was born on October 10, 1925 in Muscatine, the daughter of Roy C. and Edna J. (Gilleland) Atkins. On December 14, 1943, Betty was united in marriage to Francis Dick Walters in Muscatine. Betty was a member of the Buffalo VFW Auxiliary, Women of the Moose, CASI Club, Plus 60 club of the Quad Cities, Alcoa Retirement Club and was on the Buffalo City Council. She was mayor of Buffalo for 10 years and was instrumental with the City of Buffalo in establishing the community center, senior housing and beach improvements. Betty enjoyed gambling with her niece, crocheting and spending time with her family. Betty will be missed for the big smile she had on her face all the time.
Betty will be deeply missed by her eight grandchildren, Diana Essex, Dawn Reicks, Donna Essex, Dick E. Reicks, Francis – Germany, and John, Josh and Bethia; 14 great-grandchildren; 11 plus great-great grandchildren and her special great niece, Mindy (Mike) Harfst and their son, Mason all of Muscatine.
Betty was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Francis Dick Walters in 2007; s son, Arnold; a daughter, Diana Dodson; grandson, Jeremiah Walters; brother, sister and special niece, Anita Weikert.
