Clair E. Berry, 82, of Waverly, Ohio, and formerly of Athens, Ohio, and Lock Haven, died late Friday morning, Oct. 19, 2007.
Born May 23, 1925 in Lock Haven, he was the son of the late Theodore and Dorothy Glossner Berry.
He was a practicing attorney in Athens, Ohio, for 52 years. Prior to private practice, he served as Athens County Prosecutor.
A graduate of Lock Haven High School and Ohio University, he received his law degree from the University of Cincinnati.
He was a member of the First Christian Church of Athens.
Clair was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, serving in the European Theatre, where he was awarded the Purple Heart.
He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Mary Hughes Berry; two daughters, Sarah (Doug) Barden of Valrico, Fla., and Lois Ann (Rick) Smyser of Marshallville, Ohio; a son, Dick (Diane) Berry of Mobile, Ala.; six grandchildren, Andrew (Jessica) Berry of Mobile, Ala., Katie (Joey) Charleville of Petal, Miss., Kelley (Rob) Morgan of Mobile, Ala., and Heather (Jedediah) Lee of Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio; three great-grandchildren, Logan Charleville of Petal, Miss., Evan Berry of Mobile, Ala., and Joseph Ickes of Canton, Ohio.
Cremation has taken place and a graveside service will be conducted Wednesday, Oct. 24, 2007 at noon at West Union Street Cemetery in Athens, Ohio, officiated by the Rev. Garth Baker. Friends may call Wednesday from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. at Jagers & Sons Funeral Home, Athens, Ohio. Military rites will be conducted at the cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the American Heart Association, P.O. Box 163549, Columbus
