Richard graduated from Cannon Falls High School. In 1969, Richard joined the U. S. Army where he served as a Military Policeman. He served in Vietnam, Germany (twice), Alaska, and Maryland. He retired from the army in 1991. On March 18, 1977, Richard was united in marriage to Maxine Rehfeld in Coppers Cove, TX. In his retirement he did a little farming. He was a member of St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church and the VFW. Buck enjoyed outdoor activities such and hunting and fishing, farming, and loved watching westerns on TV. He especially loved spending time with all his grandchildren and great-grandchildren
