David J. Riley, 51, of Whitesboro, passed away unexpectedly and not from Covid on Monday, April 5, 2021 at his home, with his loving family and dogs, Buddy and Zeus by his side.

Affectionately known as "Hot Rod Dave", he was born on October 13, 1969 in New Hartford, NY the son of the late James and Merry (Lord) Riley and was educated in Whitesboro Schools.

Dave was employed as an auto mechanic with his close friends, Ray Romanus of Bristol Auto Sales, Mike DePalma and most recently with Burkhart Automotive in Yorkville.

Dave had a passion for cars and was an expert, meticulous mechanic. He was the head mechanic when it came building and working on the Burkart drag cars. Dave enjoyed building and running his gas powered radio controlled boats. He also enjoyed entertaining family and friends with a good barbecue and attending the Truck Frenzy on Wednesdays.

Surviving are his brothers, Michael and Joseph Riley, both of Utica; an Aunt; many cousins, including his caregiver and cousin, Sarah Mulvey and his "Partner in Crime", Amber VanEtten and her children, Emma and Jessie VanEtten, who Dave treated like his own.

Interment will be in the Holy Trinity Cemetery.
