Henry Walker Dies after Long Illness; Funeral Held Monday

Prominent Local Farmer Died Last Thursday Morning After Illness of Two Months; Was in 75th Year

Henry William Walker, 75 year old Sykesville farmer, died at his home at 11:30 o'clock Thursday morning, March 15th, after an illness of nine weeks. His death was due to an obstruction of the stomach.

The deceased was born on the Walker homestead on March 29, 1869, a son of Frederick and Christine (Zufall) Walker. On September 1, 1904, he was united in marriage to Sarah M. Frantz at Luthersburg, establishing a home on a portion of the Walker homestead and assisting his father in the operation of the farm.

Mr. Walker spent his entire lifetime in Sykesville, where he had successfully followed farming and had assisted his sons Fred and Paul, in various building contracts throughout this area. He was held in high esteem by his legion of friends. Early in his life he became a member of Grace Methodist Church in this place.

His widow survives him as do the following sons and daughters: Fred and Paul, of Sykesville; Sylvester of Irwin; Mrs. Mary Brown, of Punxsutawney; John of Camp Blanding, Fla; Mrs. Ruth Ross, of DuBois, and Mildred and Burnell at home. There are 15 grandchildren.

Three brothers and four sisters survive; Attorney Gust A. Walker, Mrs. Mary George, Miss Pauline Walker, of Kittanning; Irvin and Mrs. Barbara London, of Mt. Pleasant; Clarence of Telford and Mrs. Effie Couch of Schwenksville.

Funeral services were held in the Grace Methodist Church Monday afternoon at 2:30 with Rev. James Kelly in charge. Interment was made in Shaffer Memorial Park. The pallbearers were Joseph Brown, Gerald Ross, Victor Sederstrom and Alvin London.
