Henry Earl Phillips, Sr., affectionately known as Earl, was born February 20, 1942 to the late Marshall Phillips, Sr. and Nanette Horne Phillips. He and his brother, Marshall were reared by their maternal grandmother, Merinda Turner Horne.

Henry accepted Jesus Christ as his personal Savior at an early age and was baptized at Holly Grove Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Reverend Stevenson.

He received his basic education at Bowman High School. Henry was employed with the City of Vicksburg for approximately twenty years. Earl was a very affectionate man and loved his family. His wife and his children were the joy of his life. He was particularly fond and efficient of mechanics and was an excellent cook.

Henry was preceded in death by: his wife, Willie Mae Cook Phillips; parents, Marshall Phillips, Sr. and Nanette Horne Phillips; brother, Marshall Phillips, Jr.; grandmother, Merinda Turner Horne; aunt, Adlean Horne Morris; daughter, Lillian Phillips; stepson he reared, George Riley; and an uncle, Charles Horne.

Henry leaves to cherish his memories: his children, Annette Phillips, Irene Phillips Winters, Henry Phillips, Jr., Sonya Phillips (Charles) Ross, Nicole Phillips (Darius) Wynn, Yvonne Riley, Anthony Cook, Tina Cook, Sharon Clark "Tommy" Marshall, Henry (Regina) Clark and Kenneth Clark; 19 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; cousins, Carolyn Horne Bradford, J.B. Horne and Family, Michelle Horne, Pamela Horne all of Seaside California and other relatives and friends including Marchell Phillips and Family of San Francisco, California.
