He was born June 22, 1911, in Worcester County, Md., to the late John and Nancy (Guthrie) Burns.
He married Treva Iona (Troutwine) Burns May 25, 1935, in Darke County and she preceded him in death in 2004.
Allan was a lifelong farmer, he enjoyed working the land and the challenges and opportunities that it brought. He also had worked at the Sale Barn in Greenville for more than 30 years, where he enjoyed visiting with people. He had been an employee of the Hobart Brothers Co. in Troy. He was a member of the Old German Baptist Brethren Church, Sugar Grove District, Covington.
Allan will be missed and remembered by his children and their spouses, Barbara Glick of Sundance, Wy., Barbara Burns of Garnett, Kan., Allan Russel "Bud" and Diane Burns of Cody, Wy., Janet and Frank "Skip" Pratt of Tipp City, and Nancy and Ronald Mohler of Clarkesville, Ga.; grandchildren and their spouses, Wayne Glick of Bellefourche, S.D., Susan Glick of Gillette, Wy., Connie and Brad Tchetter of Sundance, Wy., April and Randy Gill of Sundance, Wy., Tim and Nadine Burns of Covington, Kayleen and Dale Schleintz of Pleasant Hill, Lora and Kevin Filbrun of West Milton, Jeremy and Laura Burns of Piqua, Gary Burns of Cody, Wy., Dan and Michelle Burns of Greybull, Wy., Eve Stephens of Cody, Wy., Carla Burns of Portland, Ore., Lauren and Robert Simmons of San Francisco, Calif., Vaughn Bowman of Norwalk, Conn., Jordan Mohler of Clarkesville, Ga., Jared and Mary Mohler of Sautee, Ga., Jennifer and Jeff Larson of Acworth, Ga., Jessalynn and Jason Grooms of Cleveland, Ga., Joshua and Emily Mohler of Anderson, Ind.; 39 great-grandchildren; 16 great-great-grandkids; and extended family and many friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Nancy Burns; wife and best friend, Treva Burns; son, John "Ray" Burns; daughter-in-law, Bonita Burns; son-in-law, Warren Glick; grandsons, Steve Burns and Scott Burns; his sisters, Mary Diehl and Edith Merle Bowman; brothers, Samuel Herbert Burns, Robert Burns and Joseph Burns; and 14 half brothers and sisters.
Funeral services to celebrate his life will be held at 10 a.m. Monday in the Old German Baptist Brethren Church, Sugar Grove District, Covington. Interment will be in the Highland Cemetery, Covington.
