Joseph Mitchell Adams, 66 of Shallotte died Sunday, April 4, 2021 at his home.
Mr. Adams was born May 13, 1954 in Lumberton, North Carolina, son of the late James Adams and Dixie Ivey Barrington. He had an extensive career in law enforcement that spanned over thirty-three years. In 1978 until 1984, he was an officer with Lumberton Police Department. He began working with Brunswick County Sheriff's Office in 1990 and worked for several years until beginning to work in 1995 with Sunset Beach Police Department. After twenty-two years, he retired from Sunset Beach where he had served as the Deputy Police Chief. In his spare time he enjoyed working with his hands making crafts and participating in many local craft shows.

Survivors include his wife of twenty-six years Eileen Adams of Shallotte; children, David Adams and wife Kimborli of Supply, Richard Adams and wife Angie of Fairmont, Jennifer Cox and husband Terry of Shallotte, Anna Dale and husband Jody of Supply, Lisa Potter of Shallotte, Joseph Adams and wife Summer of Shallotte, Christine Heintz and husband Brett of Ash, Michael Adams and wife Michelle of Ash, and Michelle Adams; brother, Jamie Adams and wife Gail of Wilmington; sisters, Nancy Coble and husband Ted of Charlotte and Mary Jones and husband Bob of Lumberton; and 13 grandchildren
