Beloved husband, father and grandfather, of Leona Valley, passed away peacefully at his home on January 10, 2021 at the age of 61.
As the 3rd generation firefighter of the Thompson family, Guy started his firefighting career at the age of 18 with Los Angeles
County Fire Department with the Camp Crews that fought wild fires. At 21, he was hired by the City of Burbank Fire Department. Guy loved his career and was always taking on more training and education. He became certified in Urban Search and Rescue as well as Hazardous Materials. He was honored as firefighter of the year for his service above and beyond. He became a Captain in 2000. He retired after 33 years of service in 2014.
After moving to Leona Valley in 1988, Guy volunteered as a call-man for the Leona Valley Fire Station, #140. He spent countless hours serving his community and responding to emergency calls. He trained many more young men who went on to become firefighters themselves.
Guy was a master woodworker. During his days off from the fire department, he built beautiful custom cabinets and furniture and had a successful business "Thompson's Custom Cabinetry". During his retirement, he started creating beautiful smaller pieces; custom jewelry, hair clips and gun handles from exotic woods.
He was a lifelong outdoors-man and especially loved hiking, camping and fishing. His favorite place to get away was Convict Lake in Mammoth Lakes, California.
Guy is survived by his loving wife Deborah, his beloved children, Brianna Jaynes, Taylor Thompson and step-daughter Savannah Kocina, his granddaughters Emily, AveryLayne and Maison, sister Cindy Lindgren and brother Rodney Thompson. He was preceded in death by his parents, Obert and Gloria Thompson.
