Avid Phillies fan, golfer, hunter and bowler
Paul Roderick "Doc" Thomas, age 87, of Sweet Valley went to be with his dear Lord Jesus on Sunday, April 4, 2021, at home, surrounded by his loving family.
He was born in Hunlock Creek on July 2, 1933, and was the son of the late William Clayton and Frances Bonham Thomas.
Paul retired from Maier's Bakery, Berwick, in 1995, and later worked part-time at Huntsville Golf Club until the age of 82. He was an avid Phillies fan, golfer, hunter, bowler, and softball player.
Paul was a member of Calvary Bible Chapel, Hunlock Creek. He was known for his faithful devotion to his Lord.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brother, Ronald Thomas; and granddaughter, Rachael Thomas.
Paul is survived by his loving wife, the former Joyce Ann Shalata; son, Brian and his wife, Karla, of Shickshinny; daughters, Judy Blaine of Wilkes-Barre, Claytonna Sorber and her husband, David, of Sweet Valley, and Stacey Krawczeniuk and her husband, Bo, of Wilkes-Barre; brother, Richard D. Thomas and his wife, Joyce, of Sweet Valley; sister, Cheryl Thomas and her husband, Chuck, of Sweet Valley; grandchildren, Roderick, Nathaniel, Derrick, Nicholas, Clint, Alicia, Ryan, Jake, Rebecca, Luke, Leah and Emma; great-granddaughters, Mia, Brooklyn and Jade; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, April 8, 2021, at 3 p.m. from Calvary Bible Chapel, 362 Hunlock Harveyville Road, Hunlock Creek, PA 18621, with Pastor Neil Martin officiating.
Visitation will be from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. prior to the service at the church.
Interment will be in Oakdale Cemetery, Hunlock Creek.
Arrangements are by the Curtis L. Swanson Funeral Home Inc., corner of routes 29 and 118, Pikes Creek.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to Calvary Bible Chapel, 362 Hunlock Harveyville Road, Hunlock Creek, PA 18621.
The family would like to extend a special thank-you to his loving caregivers and the nurses at Compassus Hospice for their compassionate care given to Paul.
