Son of Oliver and Cynthia Stewart. While most of his years growing up were in Blue Ridge, GA, most of his adult life he lived in Atlanta and surrounding areas. He graduated from Blue Ridge High and attended North Georgia College. He served as a Sergeant in the U.S. Army during World War II, mainly in the South Pacific. He participated in the Solomon Islands campaign and the Battle of Luzon, and received two Bronze Stars. After his service, he was in management with Colonial Stores and Big Star Foods. He leaves his wife, Mary Claire; sons and daughter-in-law, Kirk Stewart, and Steve and Sheryl Stewart; two grandsons, Jason and his wife, Stacy, and Mark and his wife, Jacqueline; and seven great grandchildren, Kennedy, Madison, Taylor, Camilla, Mia, Levi and Natalie.
