June 1, 1926 - March 25, 2021
Bellingham, Washington - Virginia Vail Roberts, "Ginna" left us March 25, 2021. She once said she saw no reason to live anywhere else in the world but the place she was born, Bellingham, WA. And she never lived more than 300 yards from the house she grew up in! She graduated from Bellingham High School in 1944. In 1948 she married Joseph Roberts, her high school sweetheart. Together they raised 7 children on their little farm near Marietta.

The kids inherited a love of music from Virginia. From listening to her sing along with the radio they all learned how to sing harmony. She encouraged their participation in Grange musical programs, garage bands, school band, orchestra and choir. She even marched in the parade with the Bellingham High School Alumni Band when she was 85!

Ginna also had ties to Ferndale. She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Ferndale her whole life. In recent years the Ferndale senior center was her favorite hangout. Her friends there will miss her smiling face at the Thursday lunches. She registered at the Ferndale Old Settlers celebration every year, knowing she must be one of the "oldest settlers."

Her other passions were gardening and writing. Along with a vegetable garden she always had a beautiful "patch" of dahlias. She chronicled family events by writing memoirs in her later years. Most notable may be the story of her and Joe stranded on the highway during the ash fall from the Mt. St. Helens eruption.

She was preceded in death by her husband Joseph and son Dan. She is survived by her son John (Wendy) Roberts, daughter Lorrie (Gary) Zwiers, daughter Mary (Tom) Erickson, daughter Jenny Roberts (Gary Smith), daughter Nancy (Dave) Henshaw, son Richard Roberts, and many grandkids, great grandkids, nieces and nephews.

Vigil Prayer Service will be held at Moles Funeral Home, Ferndale, on Tuesday, April 13 at 6:00 PM. Funeral Mass held at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Ferndale, on Wednesday, April 14 at 11:00 AM. Due to covid restrictions seating may be limited. Gravesite Service following, at Woodlawn Cemetery, Ferndale at 1:00. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Whatcom Hospice.
