Donald D. Humphrey, 81, of Castalia, died Wednesday morning, Oct. 9, 2019, in Firelands Regional Medical Center, Sandusky.

He was born July 3, 1938, in Port Clinton, was a 1956 graduate of Oak Harbor High School, and a 1960 graduate of the Ohio State Highway Patrol Academy. He served with the Ohio State Highway Patrol for 25 years, retiring in 1985, and then was Transportation Supervisor for Margaretta Schools. He also served in the Ohio National Guard.

Don was a member of Holy Angels Catholic Church, NRA, Eagles, AMVETS, Moose, and the Castalia Lions Club, where he was the recipient of the Melvin Jones Award.

He enjoyed the outdoors, where he would hunt, fish, and boat, and loved being with his children and grandchildren.

Don is survived by his wife, the former JoAnn Weitzel, to whom he was married for 59 years; daughter, Rebecca (Brian) Hann of Castalia; son, Eric Humphrey of Milwaukee; and three grandchildren Tyler, William, and Wyatt.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, and one sister.

Friends may call 5-8 p.m. Friday, Oct. 11, at Ransom Funeral & Cremation Service, 610 S. Washington St., Castalia, and from 9 a.m. Sat., Oct. 12, until a Mass at 10 a.m., at Holy Angels Catholic Church, 1605 W. Jefferson St., Sandusky. Burial will be in Graves Cemetery, Margaretta Township.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Stein Hospice Services, 1200 Sycamore Line, Sandusky, OH 44870, or to the Humane Society of Erie County, 1911 Superior St., Sandusky, OH 44870.
