He was born October 24, 1928 in McKeesport and was the son of the late Robert Milford and Muriel (Celisha) Potts.
He was the husband of the late Shirley Ann (Warwick) Potts who passed away April 13, 2007.
He was a member of Central Highlands Community United Methodist Church, F& AM Lodge # 375, Syria Shriners of North America, McKeesport Caravan # 4, Elizabeth Township Seniors, Renzie Park Seniors, AARP, White Oak American Legion, BELL CWA, Verizon Pioneers, Telephone Retirees Lunch and Breakfast Clubs, and Three Rivers Hillbilly's. He was retired from Verizon and had previously worked for the former AT & T and Bell Atlantic.
Robert was a US Navy Veteran. He traveled the world keeping up with his children. For Valerie it was Australia, and for Bruce it was Europe. He was a "True Blue" gentleman, always carrying a hanky to offer to a damsel in distress. He was a generous, steady, and trustworthy member of the "Greatest Generation". After retirement, he and Shirley sailed the seven seas on many cruises. They even traveled to Russia for an architectural tour. They practiced their ball room dancing and were active members of the local social scene. Bob's attire was always perfectly matched to Shirley's ball gowns, down to the color of his socks. He loved being "Pappy" to Jason and Robin. He and Shirley would often appear at their home in Michigan in Costume. It might be special T-shirts, Easter Bunny ears, or even Pumpkin costumes. He was proud to be great-grand pappy of Kaleb and Sam, and enjoyed traveling to see them.
He is survived by his daughter, Valerie J. Wallis of Elizabeth Township, formerly of Tampa, FL, son, Bruce A. (Deborah) Potts of Rochester, Michigan, grandchildren, Jason (Heather) Potts and Robin (C.J.) Wilson, great-grandchildren, Kaleb and Samuel Potts, sister, Jeanne Potts Henry of Madison, and nieces, Paula Orr, Sherry Ressler and Bonny Andrews.
He was preceded in death by his sister, Barbara Potts Leaver and nephews, William Leaver and David Henry.
There is no visitation. Private service with Military Honors will be held in the chapel of Mount Vernon Cemetery. The Rev. W. Stephen Morse will officiate. Inurnment will follow there. Arrangements are by the Gilbert Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 6028 Smithfield Street, Boston, Elizabeth Township.
