While attending Howard University, Anna met Julliette Derricotte, a Black member of the national YMCA staff. The YMCA sponsored Anna on a trip to Europe & the "Y" became a great influence in her life. After graduation, she worked for the "Y" in several cities, finally becoming the director of the Phillis Wheatley YWCA in St. Louis. She established & directed Camp Derricotte for girls in Troy, MO in 1939...this camp was the first to give camping experience to Black girls. Anne became the first Black director of the St. Louis Metropolitan YWCA in 1966.
