Obituary
Kathleen "Kat" Williamson Petty, of Petal, MS passed away April 2, 2021, while at the kitchen table drinking her early morning coffee during her established "quiet" time.
She was born in Lawrence County, MS on August 31, 1943, as the youngest daughter of Hollis Price Williamson and Lillian Thames. Called Kat by family and friends since childhood, she attended public schools in Monticello, MS. Kat found the perfect match of a husband, Jakie Petty. She and Jakie lived in Petal. Kat, the mother of two children from her first marriage, devoted herself to them and to her husband. Blessed with high energy, she also worked on a part-time basis with Efierds. Later, she worked full-time with the Hattiesburg Housing Authorities, a perfect job for someone with such a compassionate heart. She and Jakie were active members of Macedonia Baptist Church.
She is survived by her husband, Jakie Petty; her daughter, Trish Carney Smith; her step-son, Michael Petty; four grandchildren, Amanda Smith Perez (Juan), Katie Smith Martin (Chris), Brooke Carney, and Evan Petty; six great-grandchildren, Hayden, Zoey, Khloe, Kenndal, Addelynn Kathleen, and Stevie; her sisters, Peggy Williamson Jeanes, Sue Huff Williamson, and Becky Thames Puckett (Bill); her brother, Hollis P. Williamson, Jr.; and a niece and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her cherished son, Andy Carney; her parents; and two sisters, Virginia Williamson Graham and Linda Williamson Russell Wallace.
Kat, known as "Granny" to all who loved her, has always been the rock and foundation of her family. She instilled in them her love for the Lord, as well as her wisdom and kindness. She taught her daughter and granddaughters how to raise their children in a way that was, "pleasing to God". She never missed a chance to share her love of God with others around her, and had a way of making each person she met feel loved and treasured.
Services for family and friends will be at 11:30 a.m. on Monday, April 5, 2021 at Moore Petal Chapel with visitation starting at 10 a.m. Burial will be at Macedonia Baptist Church Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Macedonia Baptist Church.
