Mary Lois (Roberts) Chaney passed away peacefully on April 2, 2021 in Spring Hill, Florida after a valiant battle with a chronic illness. Mary was born February 6, 1936 in Wyandotte, Oklahoma and is the daughter of the late James Preston Roberts and the late Malinda (Davis) Roberts. Mary was proud of her heritage as a member of the Seneca-Cayuga Nation and is a direct descendant of Lewis Davis and Kah-De-Haw Young both of whom survived the Trail of Tears from Ohio to Indian Territory (Oklahoma) in 1832. Her father hailed from a long line of settlers in rural Eastern Kentucky. Mary grew up in Northeast Oklahoma and graduated from Wyandotte High School in Wyandotte, Oklahoma. On February 7, 1957 Mary married the love of her life, Dwight E. Chaney, in Miami, Oklahoma. During their marriage of 64 years, Mary and Dwight lived in Oklahoma, Arizona, California, and Florida and raised two sons, Christopher B. Chaney and G. Tyler Chaney. Mary worked as a homemaker, a dental assistant, and in the real estate industry. During retirement, Dwight and Mary lived in Sun City West, Arizona and in Spring Hill, Florida; they enjoyed travelling to visit family and friends. Mary's joy and enthusiasm for life served as an inspiration to many.

Mary was preceded in death by her parents James Preston Roberts and Malinda (Davis) Roberts, brother Bobby G. Roberts and sister-in-law Mary Roberts, and brother David L. Roberts and sister-in-law Beverly Roberts.

Mary is survived by her husband Dwight E. Chaney of Spring Hill, Florida, son Christopher B. Chaney with wife Kathleen currently residing in Bridgeport, West Virginia, and son G. Tyler Chaney with wife Joanne residing in Spring Hill, Florida. She is also survived by five grandchildren: Andrew J. Chaney with wife Rebecca of Sterling, Virginia; Rachel M. Chaney of Nahant, Massachusetts; Sarah E. Chaney with husband Connor Schlosser of Reston, Virginia; Ethan T. Chaney of Cortez, Colorado; Tyler J. Chaney of Spring Hill, Florida; one great-granddaughter Clara L. Chaney of Sterling, Virginia; and numerous nieces and nephews.
