Mary Elaine Born, 66, died at her Maryville home on Saturday, Nov. 14, 2015, after a five-year battle against ovarian cancer.
Elaine was born April 3, 1949, in Kenton, Ohio, to Elton and Mary Belle Kinney.
She grew up on her family's farm in nearby Rushsylvania, Ohio, where she enjoyed helping her mother run a salon at home, as well as caring for their farm animals.
In 1973, she married Randall Born, who was enlisted in the Air Force. She traveled with him to California and Tennessee, and in 1976, the couple settled in Louisville, to raise their family. In 1993, she and her family moved to Maryville.
Elaine was a devoted mother and shared with her children many of her skills, including art, reading, writing, sewing, and cooking. She worked from home as a seamstress, and once her children were grown, she enjoyed working a variety of different jobs throughout the community, her favorite being with Marriott Services. She loved to travel across the U.S. and enjoyed Hawaii in particular.
Elaine is survived by her husband of 42 years, Randall Born; children, Erin Gomez, Mathew Born, and Rachel Robocker; three grandchildren; brother, Stan Kinney and sister-in-law, Darr Kinney; brother, Norman Kinney; brother-in-law, Roger Born; and sister-in-law, Bev Born; sisters-in-law, Billie Thompson and Bev Rice-Anderson; and many cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.
A celebration of Elaine's life will be held at the Louisville Community Center from 1–3 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 22.
In lieu of flowers, the family would encourage donations be made in her name to the National Ovarian Cancer Coalition at ovarian.org.
