Obituary for Mrs. Dianne O. Jones
Dianne Owen Jones, 77, of Columbia, passed peacefully and comfortably in her sleep in the early morning of Tuesday, March 30, 2021.
Dianne was born on August 10th, 1943 in Greenville, South Carolina to the late Robert Franklin and Elizabeth Bond Owen. She attended St. Andrews Presbyterian College in Laurinburg, NC, where she met Fleming Jones, who became her husband and partner for over 50 years. Dianne proudly lived in Texas, Germany, Colorado, and Georgia while Fleming served for 30 years as an Army officer before settling in Columbia, South Carolina.
In addition to being a wonderful wife, mother, and homemaker, Dianne worked as a telephone operator, travel agent, retail salesperson, and bank teller. She was active at Forest Lake Presbyterian Church and loved hosting friends and newcomers at her home in Wildewood for dinners, parties, and many games of bunco and bridge. Dianne created a legacy of beauty, grace, and kindness for those around her.
Dianne is loved and survived by her sister Jeannie Wood; her son Fleming Jr. (Bonnie); daughter Shannon; grandchildren, Mary, Meagan, John, Garrett, and Cole; and great-granddaughter, Logan Caroline.
Services will be held 10:30 o'clock Thursday, April 1st in the Chapel at Forest Lake Presbyterian Church, 6500 N. Trenholm Rd., Columbia, SC, with Dr. Ellen Skidmore officiating. Shives Funeral Home, Trenholm Road Chapel, is assisting the family. An outdoor reception will follow at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials are requested to be made to Forest Lake Presbyterian Church, 6500 N. Trenholm Rd., Columbia, SC 29206. All are invited to attend; however, preregistration by calling the church is preferred at (803)787-5672. Masks and social distancing are required to create a safe environment for all.
