She was preceded in death by her parents, William Preston and Marie Preston Strawser, and her stepfather, Ernest Strawser. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Alfred C. Jones, two sisters, Roberta Reed and Edith Cobasky; three brothers, William, Jackie and Ronald Preston; two stepbrothers, Dale and Mervin Strawser; and a son-in-law, Roger L. Hewitt.
Judy is survived by her two daughters, Donna (Charles) Hare, of Morgantown and Cheryl Hewitt off Columbus, GA. Also surviving are four grandchildren, Jennifer (Tim) Shaw of Midland, GA, Bradley Hare of San Francisco, CA, Robin (Paul) Gosling, Midland, GA and Jeffrey (Jennifer) Hare of Alexandria, VA. She got great enjoyment out of spending time with her great grandchildren, Kaitlyn and Zachery Shaw, Henry and Anna Gosling, Emma, Jack, Kate, Charlotte and Nicholas Hare. Also surviving are her sister, Carolyn Sampson, half-brother, James Strawser, and stepsisters, Ruth Graham and Rita Duncan.
She spent many years working in Monongalia County Courthouse in the Clerk's Office and as secretary to many different judges before retiring. She was a member of Avery United Methodist Church and CALM (Christians from Avery who have lost their mates), and she had been active in the CEOS of Easton before it dissolved.
Friends and family will be received at Hastings Funeral Home, 153 Spruce Street, Morgantown on Monday, April 5, 2021 from 10 AM until the time of service at noon with Reverend Jenny Williams officiating. She will be then laid to rest at East Oak Grove Cemtery alongside her loving husband.
Although guests are invited to come visit, it is required, per the CDC pandemic guidelines, that all visitors wear face masks and practice social distancing.
In lieu of flowers, donations are encouraged to be made in Judy's memory to Avery United Methodist Church, 1152 Cheat Road, Morgantown, WV 26508.
