Elizabeth L. Walters, age 80, of Yukon, passed away peacefully on March 22, 2021.
Betty, as she was affectionately known, was born on July 25, 1940 in St. Paul, Minnesota.
Betty dedicated herself to both learning and teaching in the nursing field, working as a nurse
and educator for 37 years. Her education includes graduation from the Mercy Hospital School
of Nursing in Springfield, Massachusetts, a Bachelor of Nursing at Southwestern Oklahoma
State University (SWOSU), and a Master of Nursing from Southern Nazarene University. Her
dedication to her trade was demonstrated through numerous awards, including earning
Massachusetts Student Nurse of the Year, both the Outstanding RN and Outstanding Alumni
awards from SWOSU, acceptance into the Sigma Theta Tau International Society of Nursing
and becoming a member of the distinguished Oxford Round Table in Oxford, England. She
retired from nursing when she left her professorship position at SWOSU in 2009.
Betty was just as successful in her personal life. She was married to her one and only
love of 52 years, the late Donald E. Walters. She was a wonderful mother, grandmother, and
friend and a dedicated member of Holy Spirit Catholic Church for over 40 years. Her hobbies
included traveling, reading, needle work and scrapbooking.
She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Opal Lemmons, and her husband,
Donald E. Walters. She is survived by her four children, Elizabeth Vitali, Don Walters (Tiffany),
John Walters (Linda), and Jim Walters (Michelle) and her six grandchildren; Anthony Vitali,
Adrian Vitali, Hope Vitali, Lexi Walters, Meagan Walters, and Caden Guinn.
Arrangements are being handled by McNeil's Funeral Service. A memorial service to
honor Elizabeth's life will be held at Holy Spirit Catholic Church in Mustang, OK on April 10,
2021 at noon. She will be interred along side her husband at Arlington National Cemetery at a later date.
