Mrs. Geraldine "Geri" Roberts, age 84, of Ashburn, Georgia, passed away peacefully at the Wilson Hospice House in Albany, Georgia.
Born in Columbia, SC, she was one of five children born in her family. She grew up and attended school in Columbia. In 1966 she married Ashburn native, Gary Roberts, and they made their first home in the Savannah area. Over their years together they lived in Sevierville, TN, and Key West, Jacksonville, Orange Park, and St. Augustine, Florida, before settling in Ashburn in 2016. Gary had worked for over thirty-six years with the Ford Motor Company, with over thirty of those years in the Jacksonville area. When living in the St. Augustine area, Geri and Gary attended Ward's Creek Baptist Church.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by siblings, Roosevelt "Rose" Sharpe, Malachi "Mac" Sharpe, Jeanette Nola; a son, Ricky Matthews; and her former husband, Ross Matthews.
Mrs. Roberts leaves behind her husband, Gary Roberts; children, Barry Matthews (Sharon) of Ashburn, Roy Matthews (Alma) of Middleburg, FL, Gail Maddox of Dublin, Theron "Ted" Roberts of Anderson, SC; a brother, Leland "Bill" Sharpe of Ashburn; fifteen grandchildren; many great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren, as well as many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be at 3:00 pm on Saturday, April 3rd in the Williams Chapel of Sammons Funeral Home in Soperton, GA. Her family will receive friends on Saturday at the funeral home from 1:00 pm until the hour of service. Mrs. Roberts will be laid to rest in Hutcheson Cemetery.
